Six tables in the old storeroom
Low lamps, no windows to the street, a volunteer table boss and not one cent riding on any hand played here.
How the room runs itself
Four tables run first in, first seated. Two are held on the phone for groups of up to six, and released at half past seven if nobody shows.
Each table gets a lamp, a score pad and a fresh pack. Counters stay in the room at close and the pads go in the bin.
The table boss is a regular, not staff. They keep the pace, settle a misdeal and make sure nobody is left standing about with a drink.

Social games
Five hundred, euchre, cribbage and friendly hold'em — all for points.
Slow table
One table kept deliberately unhurried on Wednesday and Sunday.
Score pads
Wiped at close. Nothing carries into another night.
Four table questions
How many to a table?
Six is the limit, four at the teaching table.
Can I turn up on my own?
Most people do. The table boss will find you a seat.
Can I use my own pack?
We supply the cards; personal packs stay in the bag.
Is there a competition?
A friendly one on Friday. No entry fee, no prize money, just bragging rights.
